We are delighted that Astrea Academy has been nominated for a RICS Social Impact Award. At Race Cottam we are passionate about adding social value through our projects. The work we do and the impact this has, not only on the end user but the local community is so important to us and how we operate as a practice, so to work with Kier and have the social impact of this project recognised by RICS is fantastic.
Astrea Academy is very much a product of collaboration by the design team, the construction team and the local community. 100% of the project spend went to suppliers, labour and social enterprises within a 40 mile radius of site. Sheffield students and recent graduates benefitted from educational site visits, and assemblies were held about the construction industry in local schools. The project saw a local landmark restored in a disadvantaged area, and parents signed their children up to attend the school as soon as applications could be made.
