Blackburn Meadows Renewable Energy Park

Back to Energy & Waste Sector

Race Cottam Associates were appointed by the main contractor Bam Nuttall to develop detailed construction information for the new £120m renewable energy facility that is situated on the former twin Cooling Towers site adjacent to the M1 to the east Sheffield.

The Brief

Working from the consented scheme Race Cottam produced detailed design information for the offices, visitor centre and all the ancillary structures. Key to the success of the project has been the ability of Race Cottam to develop solutions that enabled different building elements to be constructed at different times by different contractors.

The Design

The education centre provides a safe and accessible learning environment within the water garden.  The Swale pond feature is for teaching about how water impacts on the environment.

The Outcome

The new EON 30MW energy plant will produce enough power for around 40,000 homes by converting recycled waste wood into electricity.
